名词复数形式的变化规则（二）
Our family is a happy one.

7) 有些集体名词，以单数形式出现，但为复数意思。例如：
people /police /cattle 等本身就是复数，不能说 a people，a police，a cattle，但可以说a person，a policeman，a head of cattle。
the English，the British，the French，the Chinese，the Japanese，the Swiss 等名词，表示国民总称时，作复数用，如The Chinese are industries and brave。
8) hair和fruit一般情况下用单数，表示总体。但如果我们要表示若干根头发或几种水果时，就要用这两个词的复数形式 e.g. He bought apples, oranges and other fruits. (“fruits”在此处意为“多种水果”)
9) 以s结尾，仍为单数的名词，
a) mathematics, physics, polities 等学科名词，作主语时,谓语动词用单数。
b) news 为不可数名词
c) the United States，the United Nations应视为单数。
Eg: The United Nations was organized in 1945. 联合国是1945年组建起来的
d) 以复数形式出现的书名，剧名，报纸，杂志名，也可视为单数。
Eg:"The Arabian Nights" is a very interesting story-book.
C.复合名词的复数
1）以man或woman为前缀的名词变复数时，前后两个名词都变成复数。
如：woman doctor- women doctors，man waiter- men waiters
2）以两个名词构成的复合名词（前面的名词为man或woman除外），一般把后面的名词变复数。如：boy friend-boy friends, paper bag- paper bags但也有以下例外：
sports meeting 运动会 students reading-room 学生阅览室
talks table 谈判桌 the foreign languages department 外语系
customs papers 海关文件 clothes brush 衣刷
3）数词+名词作定语时，这个名词一般保留单数形式。例如：
two-dozen eggs 两打鸡蛋 a ten-mile walk 十英里路
two-hundred trees 两百棵树 a five-year plan. 一个五年计划
4）以“可数名词+介词(短语)”构成的复合名词变复数时，把前面名词变复数。如：father-in-law－fathers-in-law。
5）以“动词 / 过去分词+副词”构成的复合名词变复数时，在词尾加s。如：
grown-up--grown-ups, stand-by-- stand-bys
（2）.不可数名词数的表示
1）不可数名词可以与表示量的可数名词连用，借以表示“可数”的概念，我们可以加 a piece ［sheet(张), suit(套), tube(管), packet(包), item(条，则), bar(条), basket(篮子), glass(杯),bunch(束), pair(双，对), bowl(碗), portion(份), herd(群), series(系列), shower(阵) etc. ］of …，如：a piece of advice(一条建议) ／a basket of fruit(一篮水果) ／an item of information (一则信息)／a kind of protection(一种保护)等。
2) 有些抽象名词的意思可以转变成为具体名词，这时要用其复数形式The insurance company paid $10000 in damages for the accident.
(“damage”本来为不可数名词“损害”，变复数后意思是“损失赔偿费”。)

This factory produces steel. （不可数）
We need various steels. （可数）
Our country is famous for tea. 我国因茶叶而闻名。
Two teas, please. 请来两杯茶
